Please help me with a plant id

Hi all
Hope that you are all well.
I have been given a plant by my father in law a few months ago. He told me that he had 2 of them so he was keeping one and I was getting one.
He said he found them on the nearly dead shelf at the end of last summer at a local garden centre and only paid 25p each. He does not know what they are adding that for 25p each it was worth giving them a chance.
I have looked online, in the garden centre when I have visited and not seen anything similar. I was just wondering if any of you have an idea.
