Tomatoes in pvc greenhouse / growhouse

Hi folks, hoping some kind soul could clarify this. I am growing cherry tomatoes and peppers in a small 4 tier plastic greenhouse / growhouse, it has a zip up front, the plastic is clear - but with green squares all through it - so basically the sun is 'dulled' for lack of a better word. I hear tomatoes need around 6+ hours per day of sun, my question is - is this direct sunlight, and if so - does this sunlight count if its through the greenhouse walls or do i need to remove the tomatoes from the greenhouse. Also, if it is generally 'sunny' but the tomatoes are not in the direct sun (but they are not under a tree) does this count?

Thank you in advance! Best regards
MJ

    As long as it's in a south-ish facing spot, it's fine.  :)

In a very hot/sunny area, these 'green' growhouses help with shading for toms, so it can be a good thing, and prevents too much scorching.
Ventilation with these is also really important. The fluctuating temps in them is far greater than in a conventional greenhouse.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Great ok thanks Fairygirl, it is a southern facing garden so it does heat up pretty good and thanks for the pointer regarding ventilation - for some reason i didnt even consider that! Much appreciated !

They can be quite difficult @markjackman76 - they get very hot, even on fairly dull days, and then the temp can drop quite considerably. I always closed mine up in the early evening so that the temp didn't drop too far before night time.
I got a better type a couple of years ago, as the plastic ones just get annihilated here, and I do the same with it. It's a timber framed one, with polycarbonate panels, and much more robust, although quite small   :)
