Turf soil prep and cover

Hi all.
I have an area of garden which will be having turf laid on it in around September. Question is what to do with the area in the meantime. It's had a hedge and trees removed from it and is very weedy and brambly.
I'll be clearing the area in the next week or so in prep for fence install. Should I then cover the soil with a tarporline to avoid lots more work reclearing when it comes to prepping the soil for turf?
