Anyone know what this is?

Hi, I salvaged some pots from my sister-in-laws new house that need a bit of TLC.

I’m not sure what this is and if it can be saved?

Any advice welcome.

    Looks like a dead mahonias.
Try scratching the stem near the base, if it's green under the bark it's still alive.

Looks like a Mahonia shrub. Very dehydrated and needs to be chopped down and ideally planted out, and then watered if it's not too late.
  • That’s what I think too. Not sure if I cut it down will it come back?

    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • K67 I cut it back and scratched some the bark. Seems like it’s too late?

  • Yeah I’ll clean out the moss and freshen up the compost and see what happens

Depends if you like the look of mahonias. Not for me too spiky and big but I do have the soft caress variety.
I would chuck or plant somewhere if you have a big enough garden, once out of the pot you can see what the roots look like.
