I was walking up to the shed intending to put my long handled lawn shears back in when inspiration struck as I reached the rose arch! Slightly awkward to prune sideways but they reached to deadhead the roses.
My S&J pruner hasn't been great - though it may just be my one that has issues. The spring broke, which is apparently common - they offered to send out new springs for free before they even knew what my problem was. But also the blade action is sticky and hard to fix. I have fiddled about with pliers and oil and screw drivers but I'm not sure I like the style of mechanism. It seems clunky and approximate.
The ARS one is much lighter, though shorter; more like the weight of seceteurs.
Neither model holds the prunings particularly well, though they are supposed to. I didn't buy them for that, so much, but it would be great if they did hold. I might have to fiddle with the nuts and botls to see if I can adjust the grippers.
One thing I wish I had done differently is to buy tools directly from the manufacturer instead of a third party seller. S&J offer a long guarantee but only if you buy straight from them. Otherwise they offer a replacement, which I don't want.
