Earwigs

H E L P
i have been invaded with earwigs. They’re eating my seedlings, clematis’ and dahlia. I have tried bug clear but doesn’t seem to work. Can anyone recommend anything else I can spray to eliminate them completely.
Thank you.

- Earwigs are nocturnal, check at night with a light to catch them in the act.
- Eliminate anything near your planting bed that harbors the insect. My original mistake was keeping a brush pile near my veg garden and earwigs love these cool, damp, dark places during the day. My solution was to chip my garden waste into the compost pile as soon as possible.
- Some have been successful placing a jar of cooking oil and soy sauce in the ground nearly flush with the surface. If possible do this among the plants or between the aforementioned brush pile and garden. The soy attracts them and the oil traps them.
- Others suggest a rolled tube of cardboard or newsprint on the ground and every morning shake them out into a bucket of soapy water.
- I've been successful with diatomaceous earth (DE) dusted on and around plants in the late evening and then water it off in the morning to prevent harming the pollinators. Just be very careful when you use the dust as you don't want to breathe this.
- Next year I plan to do more transplanting instead of outdoor seed starts, even with some types of plants I normally don't start indoors. They seem to prefer the tender young sprouts and leave the more mature plants alone.
What ever you choose, I wish you the best of luck.Still dont like them.
Sorry this does not help much but it makes me feel better !!
