Apple tree suggestions

I'm wanting to grow an eating apple tree, we already have a baker and 2 plum trees. My boys love apples (they eat up to 6 each a day) and they'd love to be able to pick them from a tree. We are mid Yorkshire area, any good suggestions would be great

@pansyface I'll have look at that, we had late frost's 1 very hard but somehow we seem to have a good crop. Biggest problem we have is coddling moth maggots in the apples

Red Falstaff is another that gets recommended a lot.

I've been very impressed with Red Falstaff and it always manages to set well even with late frosts, and from a very young age.  The only issue is that you absolutely must thin the fruit or it will tear itself to pieces under the weight of the crop.

I think spartan is a very pretty and attractive apple tree for a garden.

@BobTheGardener this definitely sounds like a good choice to me. Going to see if I can find 1 locally

Just warn the boys that they won't be picking apples for the first five years.
  • would Red Falstaff work in a small, scottish (currently cold!) garden?

I found a note in the stocklist of the website below which says "Grows well East Lothian and Edinburgh".  It is a Scottish fruit tree specialist:
Might be worth contacting them for recommendations for your particular area.
