Flag or bearded iris

We have a large clump of iris, they are great tall things. I want to divide these however Mrs Wilderbeast is adamant that they are flag iris and I think they are bearded iris. Is the technique different ? I planned on doing what Monty did last night on gardener's world but Mrs Wilderbeast says  I cant.

If you're sure that they are bearded iris (with the rhizomes on top of the soil), then you can use Monty's technique.
Flag irises are treated differently,  although not having any of those l can't help, sorry.
I think Monty did say something about the way he was doing it was only for bearded iris.

You can only do what Monty did last night if they are bearded iris. If you two can’t agree which they are you’ll have to show us a picture and we’ll be the final arbiter ... be warned, we have a history of agreeing with wives 😉

@AnniD thanks for the reply, they have great fat rhizomes on the surface (just like all our official bearded iris). This was a freebie which we were told was a flag iris but apart from different colours it looks exactly like a bearded iris

My bearded irises came from my MIL's garden and she was adamant that they were flag iris.
Let's just say she's not a woman to argue with, but l know l'm right  :)

@Dovefromabove it's a bit early for meaness remember I admitted on many occasions that I am only a man and so useless (apart from doing all the cooking, rebuilding our house and doing all the heavy gardening) I am only capable of total incompetence 🤣🤣

@AnniD my in laws aren't to be messed with either they supply nearly half of our fire wood (about 5 tons a year) and the lemon tarts compare favourably with anything a French patisserie could produce. They also buy all the ice creams on holiday 🤣🤣

I'm glad someone has told MD how to plant them. When he was on channel 4 years ago he said " dig a hole 6 inches deep and plant them"  I remember screaming at the TV "  AND WATCH THEM ROT"
