Something eating my sunflowers

Hi All,

something has recently started to destroy my sunflowers and im not sure what it is!

i have researched and it says beetles, caterpiller etc but nothing mentions about the whole plant being eaten. On one of the flowers the stalk has literally been cut accross and was hanging by a thread. Ive attached pictures and would appreciate any advice!

Thanks

That looks like a whole bunch of things have decided to dine out. I'm guessing slugs for the stripped lower leaves, some kind of mite or aphid or sap sucker for the curly stunted growth, and I'd guess squirrels for the snapped off top - I've watched squirrels eat their way through sunflowers and calendula on a wildlife camera...
