Novice gardener

I've sown purple sprouting brocolli in April & as I don't have enough outdoor space, I intend to grow them in my plastic zip up greenhouse, do they look too leggy & should I be transferring them to a bigger tray or are they already on their way to veg heaven 🙂

When you say you don't have much outdoor space, are you thinking for growing them on or for planting out?
Those need planting in individual pots, they are  a bit leggy, so need planting deeply. They will then need hardening off, but that is relatively easy at this time of year if you can choose your weather slot carefully. You might be able to take a chance and plant them out directly, as you have quite a few. There will be a few casualties and you will need organic slug pellets until they are bigger and tougher. Ideally they need planting about 45 cm apart, so if you are really short of space you won't need many. They grow too big to fit in  a plastic greenhouse.
  • Thanks, I was intending to keep them in pots/troughs to grow or large storage trays that have been given drainage holes, which I keep bringing outside but if I transfer them to the big container, how deep should I replant them? Thanks again

You can bury most of the stem nearly up to the leaves. It will make them more stable and more roots will grow. They need a good depth of soil beneath  them as they make tall, heavy plants. If they are crammed together they will not be able to grow to their full potential and you will not get a crop.

  • Ok that's a great help thank you 😃
