Mushroom compost
in Fruit & veg
I needed compost for containers to grow butternut squash and aubergines but everywhere I went was sold out. However I did find mushroom compost. Can anyone please advise if it is ok to grow butternut squash and aubergines in mushroom compost. They will be grown in the greenhouse. I have also brought some manure which I thought I could mix it in with? Many thanks.

I don't know if squash/courgettes prefer acid or alkaline soil.
It sometimes also contains quite a bit of chicken manure which is fine if it's well rotted, but if there's a smell of ammonia, then it's too fresh and best avoided or left to rot for a few months before using.
Aubergines grow into big plants and squash are even bigger so they need lots of space.
I'd be a bit concerned about growing them in a greenhouse due to the humidity, high temps. and possibility of rot.
They grow very well outside where I live.
