Onions

I' I've always had success with onions but this year, on both Sturon and Red Baron, I've seen something I've not come across before - about every 5th onion is like the one pictured - sort of crinkly, starting to shoot again ... Is it the very dry, hot spell we had? I was watering

    I'm seeing the same thing and think it's allium leaf miner.

    Yes one of my plot neighbours has pulled all his out, saying they have "the worm" in them. "the worm" is his generic term for any pest larvae he finds!

  • Thanks both - I think you may be spot on Bob T G - I will check tomorrow when next on my plot - I have just planted some leeks a week ago (tiny strands) I wonder if I should cover them? The article stated March to June as danger periods - I will read up
