contorted-willow-help
in Plants
We are getting married in May 2014 and have just purchased a bundle of contorted willow, when it arrived it had all it leaves on it and had green branches.
we need to have bare brown branches like you small bundles in shops.
We have picked all the leaves off and have let it to dry for around 2 weeks but all the branches are turning black rather than brown, my questions are
is this a normal drying process
how long will it take to dry
if not normal when is best to by bare willow and from where
please any help would be appriciated

you need to cut branches in winter. They will have matured and hardened off through the summer and dropped their leaves. Cut green they will rot
In the sticks near Peterborough
I would buy some more during the winter when the trees are dormant. Or if you know someone with a large contorted willow tree or contorted hazel, You may be able to prune it for them, during the winter, that way, the branches will stay brown. If you were closer, you could have mine, I will be severely pruning a contorted hazel this winter. I usually end up burning it as no one wants it.
ah thanks for the replies, i will try and dry these out for a few more weeks if not i will have to throw them away and wait till the winter.
yeah shame we dont live nearer you that would of been perfect. hopfuly someone around us has a large growth
