Iris Has Changed Colour

Hello Everyone,
Can anybody please shed some light of why my iris has changed colour? Will it revert back to the more vibrant purple or will it remain "washed out" in future?
The top picture is the colour this season, the lower picture was taken last year. I am most curious. All the irises in the clump have changed colour.
