clematis

Hi everyone, was looking for some help with choosing which type of fast growing clematis to plant in 2 pots either side of my patio doors which i will be growing againts a trellis Unfortunately i know nothing about them but on research i have noticed there are evergreen clamatis. Would this be the best type to choose or are there less flowers on this type and also can you plant 2 in one container for colour variation which will be about a metre in length. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Evergreen ones are slightly tender and some are too rampant for a pot.
All clematis grow fast, a group 3 is cut down almost to the ground every year and some varieties will grown over 20ft in a season.
I suggest you look at Taylor's or Thorncroft clematis websites as they are full of information.
Whatever you plant you need at least a 45cm cube pot.

The evergreen ones mostly have white flowers in spring. If you want bright colours or summer flowers go for group 3 types, but in winter you'll have bare stems until it's pruning time (late winter/early spring). If the containers are 1m long by around 0.5m deep and wide (or more) you could put in two different ones as long as they're not the really rampant types.

Thanks so much for the advice. Can i just ask does the non evergreen look bad in the winter time? I like the idea of the more colourful flowers but im concerned it will look bad againts the large trellis in the winter when it has no greenery on it.

Well a bunch of dead stems isn't a good look. On the taller 6 to 8ft varieties group 3 I do cut mine back by half in autumn  then  prune the rest in spring just to tidy them a bit over winter.
I suppose it depends on whether you can see them from the house or just wen you are outside.
