Making the most of the shed.

Too often I have seen sheds in gardens which have been left un modified and just used to dump the junk in. In this day and age where we are calling the garden the other room perhaps it's time to utilise the shed as the other room in the other room. I had issues with tool storage and having to turn out the entire shed to find them. But not now, using 3inch fence posts and scaffold boards I built a bench and shelves. And what a difference it makes.

all in a 7 x 4ft shed

what have you done with your shed?

I've not done much other than dump stuff in it, but I have plans to replace one side of the roof with clear polycarbonate, and put in a shelf for seed sowing.

My Father-in-Law used to screw coffee jar lids to the undersides of shelves, and then screw the jars themselves into their tops for storing nails. screws etc.  If you've got 20 inches of wall space available, my design could save a lot of space for you?
  • I really like that idea a great use of space

We have racking for tool boxes in one shed and I hang a lot of garden tools to save space in the potting shed.

5 years on though, both have become dumps again and need totally sorting out.

Think I should apply the technique I was taught in vehicle workshops, leave time at the end of the day to clean and tidy up all tools and equipment.

Often I work in the garden until I can barely keep going, so tools tend to just get thrown in shed and the door shut on it too often at the end of a long day. Doesn't take long to then be tripping over things and always hunting for that tool I know I had yesterday.
