Teasel seeds are said to be relished by goldfinches, and a couple of years ago I grew teasels especially for their benefit. The goldfinches couldn't have read the book; they came into the garden but only ate from the feeders that all the birds use. I never saw one of them on the teasels. I now have teasels all over the garden.
I’ve see goldfinches on teasels in our garden every year. I think it depends on how good the alternatives are though. We’re out in the country, so there are obviously far less bird feeders around than there would be in a town. I leave teasles to grow unless they’re going to be too big for where they’ve seeded.
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.
