Mouse, vole, baby rat??

Hi, can anyone help identify this small rodent? It seems to be living by our septic tank (wasps had a nest there last year so could be using that) and near to the compost bins.

Mouse. Voles have much shorter tails.

Possibly a Woodmouse. Does it have a white-ish chest?
Is it possible to see its tail more clearly?

  • Ah thanks everyone. Couldn’t see it’s chest but didn’t see any white. Huge feet it seemed! The kids are close to giving it a name... as long as it’s not a rat I’m not too bothered! Scuppered plans for a polytunnel there though.
  • Interesting. We got really close to it, my daughter almost had it in her hand!

We used to have one that hoarded spilled bird food ... he would come quite close if we stayed very still.

  • Are they likely to get out of hand and attack the veg plot?

Woodmice are browner with white underneath and larger ears. I think its just a house mouse going by the looks of it. Below is a wood mouse, different colour to yours.
