Looking at the size of it, it might have been growing for a little while. If you have cultivated the soil in the border it is quite possible that you severed it from whence it came. Roses are usually grafted onto a root stock which is a 'wild' variety. If the root stock produces shoots (suckers) it is best to remove them or the proper rose will be overtaken by the wild variety. I would keep the plant in the pot until you get some flowers, just out of idle curiosity. You might have to wait until next year. If you have a big enough garden to have what I called an ecological section (an area where it didn't matter about weeds!) which is out of sight, you could always plant it there, later.
