First thought would be scab.

Hi Gemma, I believe it was the hailstorm we had yesterday that's caused this, thanks anyhow

More like bird damage or wasps.

That's what it looks like to me too .... I remember the hail damaged fruit in the orchards around where I used to live way back when.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

I can see now how it is just on one side. Better to have hail damage than scab! Wouldn't regard it as a problem, just eat the apples when ready as they won't be so good for storage.

Certainly, it's not a big tree so eating fresh will be what I do anyway, they do look delicious
