Is my fig dead?

kkssw130kkssw130 Posts: 2
Hello!
After being very neglected, my fig has stopped growing. The branch tips were completely dry and snapped off. I've pruned down to the lowest buds but think this might be too little too late. No sign of green when I scrape the bark lightly. The pictures aren't great but there's no outer ring of green. Anyone know if this is a dead 3 year old fig?
Thank you,
Sarah

Sounds dead to me. I don't know if they can sprout from ground level, so I'd gently remove some soil around the trunk just in case but I think you have what the optimist would call another planting opportunity😉

I would give it another year as sometimes plants can really surprise you. I have a fig with a little shoot from the bottom and a friend who has a standard style tree had hers butchered by her husband a few weeks back.  Little leaf buds are already growing from around the cuts.

    Thank you!
I'll be a half-optimist, give it till next year and if there are no signs of life will find another hardy victim to put up with my limited gardening skills.
