    Hello James, it's coming on well. I wouldn't bother with the membrane underneath, just mix manure with your imported topsoil which will help with moisture retention and don't plant too near the wall itself i.e. at least 20 cms away. if you're thinking of planting climbers like roses or clematis, they'd do better 30 cms away from the wall and slightly angled towards it.
    As you say, you can now get to the exciting bit - the planting.
