Pinching out sunflower seedlings?

peteSpeteS Posts: 966
Should I start thinking about pinching out my sunflower seedlings, Ruby Sunset in this case, which grows to about 4-5 feet high. They are about 6 inches tall at the moment, but seem to be getting a bit leggy. I've included a photo to illustrate. Many thanks.

If you're growing them for flowers and not height, pinch out the growing tips on each plant when they're about 20cm tall - looking at this yours are too small. This will produce lots of slightly smaller flower heads, as opposed to one giant flower head. Mine are the same but I am leaving them to grow full height I think.
