Beech Hedge

I have a beech hedge we planted 3 years ago . We bought it as a bare root . Last year we lost a few of the plants . This year the plants looked stunning in full leaf and then they have started to look like they have frost damage but without having any frost . We have mulched them but not built it around the stems as we read not to do this , we also kept them well watered. Can anyone shed light on the problem ?

Don't worry, they should recover over the year. Looks more like heat damage on younger leaves. We have had some pretty warm weather early in the year, and that has helped many plants put on excessive growth that are unable to mature enough to deal with the extremes. The most important thing right now is too keep your shrubs well watered in the warm dry spells. In time, they will mature into stronger shrubs able to withstand cold and hot temperatures.

I agree ... fresh young leaves aren’t equipped to stand the strong sun and high temperatures we had (brrrr where’s the sun gone 😢 )

They’ll recover. Nothing to worry about.
