Pale Mark's underneath Acer leaves

I have noticed pale marks undeath leaves of Acer tree which is in a tub. 
Im wondering what they may be. Any ideas what is causing them/is it how the tree is?
The leaves are curling and falling off the tree.

    It's not easy to see from the pic what the spots are but one possibility is Scale Insect.
    It's this time of year they nymphs hatch and take up residence - BUT, that's just a guess
