Is my lettuce safe to eat?

Hi, just started growing a few different types of lettuce outside. Went to grab a couple of leaves this morning and they seem to have really small holes mostly near the edges of the leaves with some of the holes turning slightly brown .. I’ve attached a picture. Does anyone know what could be causing this and Are they still safe to eat? Many thanks for any information 😁

They may have been nibbled by an insect but they’re perfectly safe to eat ... much better for you than something that’s been sprayed to kill any insects that may happen to be there.

If you think there may be insects lurking you can put in a bowl of cold water with a dessert spoon of cooking salt for ten/twenty minutes ... that’ll kill any insects that may be among the leaves then rinse thoroughly.
