Tall Order - Shrub Recommendation

I wish to plant a shrub in a southerly facing garden that will flower July/August time. The problem is that the soil is primarily clay based. It would be against a westerly N/S fence with what I believe to be 10 foot high Leyland Cypress on the neighbour's side of the fence. A tall order I appreciate but any recommendations would be most welcome.
