Patio apple tree advice please.

KlinkKlink Posts: 261
I've just taken delivery of two Jonogold patio apple trees i ordered from Marshalls a while ago. They've arrived looking very sorry for themselves after a long journey.I've sat them in a bucket of water for now as their leaves are curling so hopefully a drink will revive them.
Now,i did want to plant one in my newly acquired allotment and one in a large pot in the garden. My allotment is already full (apple trees were supposed to be out for delivery end of June so they've taken me by surprise) so i wondered if i plant that one in a pot temporarily could i plant it in the allotment later in the year and if so, when's best?
Also, what compost do you suggest?
Any help much appreciated.

Thanks pansyface. I've not grown fruit before so want to give them the best start. :)

Old thread i know but, noticed today that one of the trees looks as though it's been sprayed with artificial snow. Powdery mildew i guess. It's in a tub next to the other tree. Will it spread to that one (no signs yet) or having just moved it to another spot in the garden have i saved it from the same fate?
I don't like using chemicals so any ideas how to treat the tree or is it doomed to die a furry death? :'(

If it is powdery mildew then more water is needed. It should survive though. Other things which look like artificial snow include wooly aphid. If you can post a photo that would help with identification.

I wish i could post a photo @steephill but as i've just being saying on another thread,my phone isn't capable of such things.
It's just strange that the 'snow' appeared so quickly.I thought i'd been watering it maybe a little too much but then the weathers been so changeable maybe i haven't given it enough.I've not grown fruit before so i'm on a steep learning curve!
