Morning all

My question is this, now I have some advise on next years Tommies etc , is it ok to simply use the seeds from a ,say Tomato or cue or pepper, if you find one thats really good tasting then does it work, also because I,v found the cucumbers so easy to grow (so far) im thinking of trying those shorter ,smaller ones and wondered if anyone has any info on which are tasty and any hints would be good, any advise on sweet peppers would be ok too, and at last we had a downpour yesterday and boy did we need it here in Nottinghamshire, the lawn is beige and sad, but the old car is shiny again, many thanks avagooden Alan

Hello Alan. Seeds collected from fruits you have grown may not always produced similar fruit because a great number of the original plants are probably hybrids and therefore won't breed true. It would be a fun exercise to do but always use packeted seeds as back up.
Lashing down here too, and for once I'm not complaining.

Hello @Alan4711 😊 good to see you again ... I take it you found somewhere more congenial than Norfolk 😉
have you got a greenhouse where you are now?

All the mini cucumbers are F1 hybrids. They don't come true from seed.  The seed are expensive but a packet will last a couple of years provided it is stored cool and dry and away from mice.
Tomatoes tend to germinate all over from dropped ones, some are like the parent. Heritage tomato seeds are old fashioned sorts that breed true.  Risk a few pounds on good seed. You won't regret it.
