Black eyed Susan

Hi all, I sowed black eyed Susan seeds around the 23rd April but still have nothing, any suggestions?

Thunbergia alata.  With the recent heat, one would have expected to see some movement.  How did you sow them?
I have been using coir and vermiculite.  Having soaked the coir and producing a good basis.  The seed has been lightly sown.  Then a light covering of vermiculite.  A gentle soaking and in a couple of days, germination.

How deep?  What sort of conditions?  In a pot or outside?  I would have expected them by now.

Hmm, mine germinated in about 10 days and are nearly ready now.

Where have they been left?  They need to be quite warm and humid ideally.
  • Just in hanging baskets which have been kept damp, so disappointed, might have to try get some plants instead
  • I definitely would have expected them by now, they are in enriched compost. I might have a look at them. I read somewhere yesterday that said you should soak them first which I didn't do

    Mine didn't germinate either
  • Am going to have a look at the seeds today, have ordered some plants now, not sure what went wrong

Ah ok, they should be started indoors, in a warm room.  Mine started life on a south facing windowsill above a radiator.

I don’t think these ones will germinate, but don’t be deterred, get some seeds for next year and coddle then indoors for a bit and they’ll reward you with lovely vigorous plants.
  • Thanks I will definitely start them indoors next time
