Plume poppy or Macleaya Cordata—-can I grow it in a very large planter?

Please forgive what may be a dopey question but I am a new gardener. My cousin has gifted me with two plume poppy plants which I am very excited about. Alas, the best space for them is rather near the house and we are painting the house this summer. I’m afraid if I put them where I want them, the painters will likely destroy them.
Can I grow them in a large planter for this season and move them next year?
