Can anyone help determine what’s wrong with my pak choi?

This is my first time growing pak choi and I’d still regard myself as a novice gardener - I’ve never had diseased plants in the three years I’ve been growing veggies so I have nothing to compare it to. I’ve searched online and it may be downy/powdery mildew?

Anyone have any experience with this?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

    Looks like Flea beetle damage:
There other possibilities though.  Is there anything visible on the underside of the leaves?

  • Thanks for your reply!

The underside of the leaves look mostly normal, a bit pale where there is discolouration on the tops of leaves and some very small, off-white, what I can only imagine are eggs? I also noticed a few tiny insects on both sides of the leaves that would scuttle away quickly as I approached.

After reading about flea beetles it came back to me that there were lots of small holes in some rocket plants I grew a couple of years ago in the same patch, so I suspect you are right. Can flea beetles cause the discolouration as well as the holes?

Yes, they suck the sap out of small areas of leaf which then die and become a small hole.  The yellow patches could be where thet have recently fed.  The 'eggs' you see could be tiny aphids but whatever they are, I would rub those off wherever you see them.

  • It seems likely that’s the problem, although I’m not sure if the bugs I saw were flea beetles. I’ll have to have a closer inspection tomorrow.

Thank you, really appreciate the help!
