Blackcurrant bush query

I have lots of new green shoots on my blackcurrant bushes and not much fruit. Should I cut them off before pruning later on in the year?

No, the new shoots will give you fruit next year. Prune blackcurrants after you pick the fruit, or in late July. Cut out a third of the old wood (usually the thickest stems) down to the base.

    How old are the plants?

Thank you for your advice. Do you think they are getting too old? They a they are about 8 years old. These shoots that I am talking about are coming from the old stems and at least about 6 on each stem.. about 12ins long.
