Removing Old Lawn for New Turf

Hi All,

I want to remove my old lawn and plant fresh new shiny turf. Never done this before so looking for some advice.

Research suggests I should do the following:

Turf Cutter the old grass
Rotovate
Lay topsoil and level with my feet
Spread some pre-turf fertilizer
Order and lay new turf
Water

Question is, will my current lawn need cutting or can i just rotovate (see picture) it's pretty shabby?

Any advice welcome

TIA

Personally l would just rotavate it. It looks like it might be quite stony underneath, so at the risk of sounding like the nanny state, make sure you're wearing the proper kit.

Looks as though you might have an underlying problem this end. Needs looking at before laying new turf as would be a costly blow to end up the same.
