We are lucky enough to have a very large rainwater run off tank under the patio which is now about 2 thirds full. We have two water butt's which are now used up and empty.
I water anything newly planted, anything in pots of course and those plants showing stress due to lack of water. It's been dry since middle of April here
Well, starting this thread yesterday has worked like a charm. The sky is grey, there are gusty winds and a sharp shower earlier this morning. I think autumn has arrived. The rain butt I emptied on Monday has water in it!!
South Bucks here and though it's been overcast all day we have barely had a drop despite it being forecast. I didn't water anything this morning thinking it would get a good soak 😡
I water when its absolutely necessary. So newly planted, stuff in pots (not much, I prefer things to be in the ground where possible) and when its been so dry I worry that established plants will really suffer.
I do try to be reasonably 'green', but I don't feel too bad about watering. I try to make my garden wildlife friendly and if the plants all die it won't be, so the water is being used for an environmental benefit.
When I can afford it I'm going to move a wall and a gate that are in the way currently and put in a water butt.
@josusa47 yes, it's been the warmest driest Spring since records began. It's very unusual for ye to have rain before us, rain must have skirted around us lol. Calls for a hosepipe ban already!!

Then always too wet from October to March.
Is that a record for Ireland?
