Seeking your advice.

i love in Dubai, I got a new home with a yard and very excited to lay turf and garden my own yard!

but sadly as we are in the deserts, all yards are made of desert sand, similar like beach sand if u know what I mean, I think I did a mistake with educating myself first I bought 1000 litres of potting soil and laid it of and mixed it and watered it very well with the sand.

i cane to know that I should have used top soil.

Can I lay my turf on mix of sand and potting soil? Will it survive ? Should I add any product first ?

I think think it will probably be fine, but expect to fertilize it occasionally with some sort of liquid feed (they make some that attach to your hose end) as there won’t be much in the soil.  I have family in North Carolina, and they have extremely sandy soil.. and it's extremely hot much of the year.. and they grow grass just fine.

I assume the sod you are purchasing is specific to your region and temperatures?  Also, a trick I learned here in Utah (arid desert climate), is some people turn their sprinklers on mid-day to cool down the grass.. in addition to a deeper watering in the morning or evening.  Many grasses will go dormant in the heat.. so make sure you purchase the best kind for your location.
    Utah, USA.
  • Thanks for the advice ! I’ll purchase a Fertilizer to lay down before landing the turf! I’m glad it will work out !

My worry is not the sandy yard, it’s thenpottinn soil I used instead of top soil. I mixed 1000litres of potting soil on a 400 sqft of sand
