Black and white flecks on tomato plant

Hi everyone!

Was just about to go prune my tomato plants and i've noticed this on 2 of my 4 plants. I've separated them from the 2 that look ok but thought i'd check in here before condemning them. Any ideas what the stuff up the stem is? Hard to tell if it's bugs or a growth or just dust but not looking very pleasant!

Thanks in advance!
Mark.

They're ok - as pf says just a few aphids.
The stems are covered in hairs if that's what you're referring to as dust.
They are sticky trichomes. They contain toxins that deter insects and often trap them

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • Thanks for the replies! I'll stop worrying and leave it be then! They are growing tomatoes so something is going right!
    Thanks again!
