Bamboo Aurea

Hi
Thanks for letting me join your forum.
I have just purchased a Bamboo,  Aurea, and I have just noticed some form of leaf decay/rot or whatever it is called , and am wondering what I can do anything to clear it up , or not ! .

Hello Stan, are you sure it’s rot and not just a bit of damage from transport/handling, which may not show up until some time afterwards?

Forgive me for asking, but you do know what you are letting yourself in for? It’s pretty well behaved at first, but will turn into a rampant spreader!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

    Thanks for your reply .
I am not sure what it is, but it is on quite a few leaves all over , yes I gather they do run away at some time , they are just along a fence between neighbours , we have other types of Bamboo , especially one we got when in Cyprus a long time ago , some are nearly the height of the bedroom window , we have to have a major dig and divide every couple of years to keep them in check , but this one does not look like it will be has aggressive has my other Cyprus ones !

I wouldn't bank on that.  When work was done on the garden, the barrier I had in place to restrain mine was broken.  Within a year, runners were coming up 15 or 20 feet away from the main plant.  I ended up removing the entire plant plus tracing the runners and ripping those out too.

We love bamboos but they do start to take over and you have to be vigilant.
We have used no end of barriers and they still get past them. Through the soil. under the slabs and up through the concrete.
You will have to keep a very watchful eye on them.
    Very difficult to remove.
