Red bellis. Do I treat it as an annual?

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
I bought them last autumn for a bit of winter colour and they've been flowering their socks off since then.
They're just starting to look a little  bit tired now. I'm not sure if it's the hot weather or they need a rest.
Do I treat them as annuals or find a spot in the ground for them to recuperate?

  • I was given some by a neighbour two years ago and they are flowering happily in the shade of a berberis, having been in the ground for all that time.  If yours are in a pot and struggling a bit I'd try putting the pot in some partial shade and see how they like it, and then consider putting them in the ground in that spot.  They do spread but quite slowly, so I'd say treat them as a perennial - though am happy to be corrected!

Thanks @Stephanie newish gardener. The container is too big to move, but I'll find a shady spot for them. I only expected them to flower for a couple of months at most!

  • @B3 I just went to take a pic of my happy bellis and found that one of them is distinctly unhappy! Have administered emergency water to the sad looking thing on the left and have my fingers crossed!! We definitely need rain!!!
