Buddlia growth and flowers

    OK so I did it and planted 6 cuttings into pots with a mixture of 50/50 fresh compost and sharp sand. They don't look happy, well one looks OK, but curious to see if they make it. Might give them some fertilizer tomorrow.


  • I think you need to remove the large leaves to minimise water loss.

    Those cuttings are too big EricsGarden. They should be roughly 4 inches long, cut below a leaf node and strip off the lower leaves before inserting in compost. Do not fertilise cuttings - they need roots to take up water and fertiliser.

    Thanks for the info. I have made the recommended adjustments. Curious to see how they turn out.

    Buddleia cuttings are very easy. Don't cosset them -no food. Just tuck them out  the way somewhere.  :)
    I had to remove one from a border recently where I'd stuck bits to keep the r*ddy cats off a bit of bare ground, and it was rooted and growing. You can literally just stick bits in the ground  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
