North facing fence that won't turn green

Hi everyone,
I'm replacing a run of old picket fence. It is north facing and covered in green algae. A couple of years ago I attempted to remove the algae and repaint and it lasted 2 years before turning green again.

Does anyone have any ideas for a replacement fence or material that is less prone to algae please?

Thanks for taking a look
Matt

    A hedge?
Green wire fence and grow ivy along it and some clematis.
Plastic picket fencing that you can wash.
    Stone wall.

  • Thanks for your comments. I'm leaning towards installing a low hedge.

Or you could try planting with a shade-loving climber such as Hydrangea Petiolaris... beautiful, but will take time to get growing.
