    Thanks @Dovefromabove that explains why the bloody snails are so quick off the mark. They took out all the leaves before the flowers had a chance to grow. I'm going to scatter the seeds outside my roadside wall and hopefully at least get a handful of leaves to try next year. I love this forum so many knowledgeable people. You all ROCK!

    @sampullman - maybe if you get enough, you can make your own oil and start a cottage industry  :D

    Haha great idea @Fairygirl if I was going to build my empire on growing I think I would choose grapes. The idea of having my own vineyard is very appealing but unfortunately I see many stories of how the vineyards struggle with pests and climate. I would hate to rely on my growing skills for a living, but the dream is nice :)
