Need help replacing decking with lawn
Hi all,
Please see photos:

I would grateful if someone could please share some advice on what to use to fill the hole after I remove decking.
The decking is old and broken so I plan to remove it all. Though, once removed it will leave a big hole with gravel stones. It's probably 50sqm with dept ranging from 200-600mm..not really sure what to do, any ideas?
I just want a nice flat lawn or paved area for the kids to play on without spending a fortune, so ideally something I can do mysel
Would it work if I put i hardcore then some top soil in there?
Open to all suggestions.
Many thanks in advance

I don't think you will get a good lawn on top of hard core and you do need 150mm or more for grass and that's a lot of soil to buy and put down.
The other option it to level up with fine stone dust, chippings, level and compact with a wacker plate and put down artificial grass.
If the level is more even you could leave as is and lay slabs using the mortar bed to level them up but this only works on small level changes.
Or just renew/enlarge the decking as play area.
Or lift the decking fill in the area with play bark and add swings and children but don't know how big a garden you have in relation to the decked area or where it is in relation to the house.
Can you lift the decking and then come back for better advice.
