Climbing Hydrangea failing to leaf

    I don't know where you are, but I have a Hydrangea petiolaris that i planted 40 years ago on a NW facing wall. Close-to-the-house in poor soil and builders' rubbish.  Apart from keeping it under control I have done absolutely nothing.  No water, no fertiliser, no pesticides, nothing.
     location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.
