transferring cuttings made in water to compost advice

Hello just a quick question. I accidentally broke bits off a salvia while potting it out a few weeks ago, and put them stems in water, and they have rooted quite well. Time to put in compost, now, I think. Does it matter what I put it in, exactly?

Just a multi purpose will do, its best to put a little bit of compost in the pot,  drop the cutting in then fill the pot around it.
