Although there are plants that I really dislike. I don't think I would call them vulgar. As with everything else, fashions come and go. Dahlias were unfashionable for a time, but now they're very popular. Gladioli, municipal salvias, chrysanthemums, privet and those begonias with brown leaves might return to popularity. Some sooner than others😉
I love them. How can you not like fifffnopppia. They make a pretty good wind break as well...
What variety is this? I like that a lot!
I have no idea, sorry. I usually hide the label nearby but I just had a good look and can't see one. I'll check again when the monsoon passes and let you know if I find it.
I do like a Knifophia although it's true about the foliage looking a bit meh. Except K. caulescens which has really good foliage - but it's flowers look grey and faded to me. Some of the smaller species with fine foliage look like they might be worth trying.

My Wrexham Buttercup is still not showing any signs of flowering, just masses and masses of (yes messy) foliage that is taking over. But we have had cool weather and monsoon rain for a nearly an entire month and it’s just totally sodden out there. To think I was expiring in a heatwave this time last year! I am thinking of replacing WB with something smaller with more restrained foliage - maybe a popsicle.
