Dividing carex grasses

Looks like I need divide my carex evergold as it has dead leaves in middle 
I’ve no idea how to do it 
I know I’m going end up killing it 
aware I have to as lot grasses and wasn’t aware I need divide them every three years

    This year (late March) I just cut my Carex into three with a bread knife right through the middle and it was fine. 

    Spring is ideal, or early Autumn. If you absolutely had to do it now you'd have to keep the divisions very well watered preferably not in full sun - easier to wait for Autumn or next spring if you can.

    so I’m better to wait 
    it’s right at front of garden do everyone sees it 
    but if I do now I will risk killing it won’t I as it’s quite in the sun for few hours in morning 
    maybe I’m best leave until sept 🤔
