Definite not knotweed ... not bindweed either. Looks more like a clematis ... there are flower buds ... wait and see what you get ... it could be a good one or it could be the native Old Man’s Beard aka Traveller’s Joy which can be a bit of a nuisance.

Thanks @Dovefromabove I have a number of clematis in my garden and this doesn’t resemble any of them. I will ask him to monitor it for flowers and we’ll go from there.
My stepson has moved into a new property and the garden has potential😉, but work has yet to commence!
