@Obelixx ..I am so looking forward to seeing your roses... yes we can get Scentimental and I know I've seen Cornouaille somewhere as it means Cornwall and so it rang a bell, but can't think where now.. I do not know the breeders Francois Dorieux or Reuter... so I really want to see the sort of roses they do... thanks...
You could always take hardwood cuttings, so the rose is on its own rootstock. That way , no suckers from a dog rose rootstock. They are very easy to do in the winter. I have done this with an old shrub rose, as well as a big climbing Rosa filipes x. I have resorted to just pushing a foot long unflowered shoot in where I want it to flower.
@Meomye Next time one appears I'll take a pic before I yank or chop it off. However, the clue on Geoff H is that new shoots form the main stems are a lovely deep coppery red before they go the more usual green. The suckers come up from under the soil and are green.
@fidgetbones I shall take cuttings now and in autumn and see what happens. I really like the flowers and perfume so do want to keep him.

Cornouaille is, apparently, a Harkness rose but I can't see it listed on their site. Its a mix of pale pink that goes more salmony when it matures.
Scentimetal is USA bred by Weeks and is available from Peter Beales in the UK. It is bi-colour crimson and white with a strong perfume.
Annapurna is pure white and highly scented; bred by François Dorieux in France.
Acapulco is, I think, a rose by Reuter and changes colour from gold and apricot to pink so a lot like your Aquarel.
