Moving wilting tulips

Hi, my tulips are now wilting and in past years I've waited till the leaves are fully brown (in about four weeks) before digging up and storing until Autumn, problem is this year I need the space that they are occupying, could I potentially dig them up and store in small pots before storing or is this counterproductive?

I think you can heel in bulbs so that the leaves continue to die back normally.
That is dig a shallow trench/hole,cover bulbs with soil and leave the leaves out.
I expect a pot would work just as well  :)

I don't see why you can't do that, but allow the foliage to die down naturally. Keep them in pots, in some compost, until that happens. Just tuck them somewhere suitable too.

You can also give them a couple of feeds while that's happening, and that will also benefit them   :)
